Agriculture

Since 1903, our family has been engaged in farming, and our farm has continuously developed ever since. In 1969, we began offering contract work, and we have steadily expanded this branch of our business as well.

About our agriculture:

  • Our livelihood is the soil, and therefore it is our responsibility to take care of it. For decades, we have practiced minimal tillage on our fields.

By refraining from plowing—and thus avoiding the complete inversion of soil layers—crop residues, fertilizers, and even certain weeds are not worked deep into the ground but instead incorporated relatively shallowly into the topsoil.

This results in positive effects such as the preservation of soil horizons and an increased activity of soil fauna (including the number and activity of earthworms). Plow-free cultivation enhances soil fertility, builds up humus, improves water balance, and contributes to stabilizing soil structure. Avoiding soil inversion also reduces erosion and surface sealing.

Most of our fertilization is carried out organically, using digestate from our biogas plant. This closes an annual cycle through which we sustainably generate both energy and food. Organic fertilization also benefits the soil by supplying a wide range of nutrients. In addition, it supports humus formation and improves overall soil function.

  • Our crop rotation consists of wheat–cover crop mixtures, maize, and triticale/oats.

In addition, we cultivate areas with the perennial crop Silphium (yielding for 15–20 years or even longer after a single establishment) as well as meadows that we maintain (learn more on our Biodiversity page).

  • In total, we cultivate 257.85 hectares in our beautiful region.

We offer the following agricultural services:

  • Ultra-shallow Cultivator Kerner Stratos SA

    • Leaves a level soil surface across a working width of 6 meters
    • Wide range of applications, from shallow soil cultivation to seedbed preparation
    • Front knife roller chops cover crops or maize stubble

Star Wheel Cultivator Kerner Corona 500

    • Working width 4.8 meters
    • Universally applicable
    • Quick-change system for shares and roller
  • Seeder: Horsch Pronto KR

    • Precise seed placement – because only the seed that is sown correctly delivers top yields.
    • High sowing speed – because the optimal sowing window is limited in time.
    • Flexibility in seedbed conditions
  • Sprayer: Horsch Leeb 6 GS

    • High working speeds thanks to hydropneumatic boom suspension and a working width of 30 meters
    • Minimal distance to the target area through automatic boom control
    • High-quality, durable stainless steel tank – easy to clean with residue-free inner walls
    • Steering axle for stable boom position, high driving stability, and precise tracking to avoid crop damage
    • SectionControl (automatic section shut-off)
  • Case Axial-Flow

    • High-performance specialist for your crops
    • Axial rotor threshing technology advantages: thorough threshing, minimal losses, and excellent grain quality
    • Header working width: 7.6 m
    • Corn header working width: 6 rows
  • We dry grain, maize, and other crops, as well as wood.

  • We are interested in the purchase and sale of wheat, silage maize, grain maize, and other crops. Feel free to get in touch with us!

  • Positive effects for nutrient balance, field hygiene, and your wallet! Mulching and maize straw reduction with the BioChipper

Arable soils should have a C/N ratio below 25:1. Otherwise, soil organisms reduce their mineralization activity or immobilize nitrogen within their own biomass. When large amounts of straw remain on the field after harvest (C/N approx. 50–100:1), the C/N ratio increases, and microbial activity is inhibited.

A single pass with the BioChipper reduces the amount of straw on the field by half (according to LfL research). The remaining straw is finer in structure and largely shredded. This makes it easier for soil organisms to break it down (improved straw decomposition). In addition, subsequent soil cultivation is simplified.

Maize stubble is mulched and shredded, creating ideal field hygiene conditions for the following crop (e.g. against corn borer, fusarium, etc.).

Altogether, these services and effects provide a value of around €200 per hectare.

We offer you this service package in return for receiving half of the maize straw yield from the respective field.
